Passport photo booths in Australia (Photo-Me)

Read this first: the Australian passport photo rules

Checked 2026-10-26 on passports.gov.au. These are the Passport Office’s own requirements — not a promise that a booth photo will pass:

• A passport application needs 2 printed photos that meet all of the Australian Passport Office’s requirements.
Official source: passports.gov.au — Passport photos
• Size: 35–40 mm wide and 45–50 mm high; your face from chin to crown must be 32–36 mm.
Official source: passports.gov.au — Passport photos
• Print: less than 6 months old; good-quality colour prints made by dye sublimation (not an inkjet printer), on heavy-weight glossy paper of at least 200 gsm.
Official source: passports.gov.au — Passport photos
• The Passport Office recommends a professional passport photo provider (post offices, photographers, some chain stores, camera stores and pharmacies are the examples it gives — photo booths are not named either way), and every photo must still meet the guidelines. It does not recommend online photo services or apps.

• If you apply on a paper form, your guarantor signs the back of one of the photos. If you apply online, you name a referee instead, who does not sign a photo. Renewals need neither.

We cannot tell you whether a booth photo will be accepted: the Passport Office decides that when you lodge your application, and it may ask for a new photo. Check the photo against the requirements above before you use it.

We have not checked the rules for driving licences, visas or other countries’ documents, so this page says nothing about them — check with the issuing authority.
