FAQ
- How is this different from a purikura booth?
- A purikura booth is a machine session of a few minutes. A self photo studio is a room with a camera and lights that you book for a time slot. We count them separately; booths are on our Japan photo booth map.
- Will a photographer take the pictures?
- No. We only list studios where you press the shutter yourself; staff usually just explain the setup. Studios with photographers (Korean-style portrait studios and henshin makeover studios) are on separate pages.
- Do I need a reservation?
- Most studios take reservations. The Booking line on each card follows the official site; if the site says nothing, we leave it blank.
Listing rules & sources
- Only studios where customers press the shutter themselves (front-desk staff is fine). Photographer-run studios, bring-your-own-camera rental spaces and photo booth machines are excluded.
- Every address is confirmed on the studio's official site or official booking page. Studios found only on Instagram, blogs or listing sites are not included.
- Names and addresses are shown as written on the official site. Prices appear only when the official site states them.
- Sorted by prefecture (north to south), then name — not by rating, and not a recommendation.
- Checked 2026-10-13. We recheck official sites every quarter and remove studios we cannot confirm two quarters in a row.
