Getting the digital file from a Japanese ID photo booth

Online applications ask you to upload a file, not a printed sheet. Some Japanese ID photo booths can put the shot on your phone — 15,802 of the 22,369 locations we list are flagged for this in the operators' own data.

Prices vary by machine and location, and the price on the machine’s screen is final. What each operator publishes on its own website is collected on ID photo booth prices in Japan.

Locations flagged for digital copies, by brand

  • ID-Spot:324
  • Ki-Re-i:6,273
  • ID VOX:1,316
  • Photo-Me:7,889

Counts are our tally of the flags in each operator's published list. The unit is locations, not machines. Each operator defines "data retrieval" differently, so the counts are not comparable across brands.

Three operators, three different mechanisms

  • Ki-Re-i (DNP), "With Sumaho": states the shot can be saved to a phone as JPEG at an original size of 1024×768 pixels, and resized (cropped) in the app by intended use. It also notes that data shot before 9 December 2018 cannot be resized in the app, and that app version 3.1.0 or later is required. (Ki-Re-i official page)
  • ID VOX (Fuso Precision): requires the dedicated app; the official site states data is kept for 6 months from the shooting date and that a resize (crop) function has been added. Reprints need the access code printed on the sheet and must be done at the machine. (ID VOX official site)
  • Photo ME (ME Group Japan): lists photo data download among the features of its latest machine (ND71). (ME Group Japan official page)

When you actually need the file

  • Online applications that require a photo upload, such as applying for a Japanese passport online.
  • Reusing the same photo later, without shooting again.
  • If you only need paper to cut and glue, do not pick a machine for this.

Finding a machine that supports it

Every prefecture page on this site can filter by "photo data", and each row carries a map link.

Sources and limits

This page records what each operator publishes. We reproduce it; we are not the rule. Photo specifications are set by each issuing authority and do change.

An official list only shows that an operator says a booth is there — not that it is still working today. Check with the host store or station before you make a special trip.

This is an independent, neutral directory with no affiliation to the operators listed. It does not rank or recommend any of them.
